History with a Nominee

The year was 2001. In 36 hours, the World Trade Center would collapse upon itself and change America forever. But on Sunday Night, September 9th, a group of people sat around a collection of side-by-side banquet tables to read a script together. The book was a play called “The Man Who Came to Dinner”, and it was the first-ever acting opportunity for Damian Muziani. One of his fellow actors was a 9-year-old girl named Maddie Brewer. Even at that age, Brewer had an actor’s approach to rehearsing. She watched others, took in what she saw, absorbed the way adults talked, and reacted to each other. Fast-forward to July 13th, 2021, and Brewer (who now goes by Madeline) is basking in the glow of receiving her first-ever Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Janine in the hit Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale”. After Damian Muziani congratulated Madeline on Instagram with a copy of her bio from 20 years ago, she wrote back:Mandinner

For Brewer, this is a sign for even bigger things to come in her career moving forward. And it all started in a little town in New Jersey, on the eve of a different America for as long as we will ever know it.
