Throughout time, movies are a way of defining the decades when they are made. Take a look at the movies from the 1930s to the 2010s.

1930s: Gone with the Wind

The highest grossing movie of all time, this was the first epic film made. It had a star-studded cast, and it captivated audiences around the world. During this decade, people welcomed the distraction from the issues of poverty and war.

1940s: Casablanca

Casablanca stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, so it was a hit right away. It tells a story of romance, betrayal, heartache, and war, and it was suited for the times. It is still considered one of the best films of all time. 

1950s: Singin’ in the Rain

Another cast of stars, Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor have great songs and dancing in this film. It is fun and musical, and it is a classic film.

1960s: Psycho

This movie by Alfred Hitchcock is one of the best horror movies of all time. The star, Anthony Perkins, plays a psychopath, and he depicts his character perfectly with the perfect combination of charm on the outside and heartless cruelty within.

1970s: The Godfather

Everyone loves a great gangster movie, and The Godfather was the original that led to other great gangster movies in later decades. The movie has a great cast and is one of the best films ever made. 

1980s: The Breakfast Club

This film defines the 1980s like no other. It has the perfect cast to show the struggles of unpopular kids and popular kids, and it is truly a classic.

1990s: Pulp Fiction

Director Quentin Tarantino made a name for himself with this film. It reached out beyond where other films had gone with violence and sex. He was able to push the boundaries of audiences without sending them over the edge, and the shock value was able to attract and offend audiences at the same time. 

2000s: The Dark Knight

This Batman film explores the dark nature of Batman, and the Joker is sadistic and wicked. It is well executed and has the perfect pace along with excellent cinematography. 

2010s: Inception

This film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and it takes you on a journey through the dream world. It has excellent special effects, action, and a talented cast.
